It was a very closely contested match. Caliph did more of the shooting in the first half. Sharks did their fair share in defending and also finding their form within 20 mins. A through ball was given to Hafshya No.7 and in his own stride he took the ball and deliver a well-taken shot to put Sharks in lead. Then Al-Caliph starts their attacking runs and Sharks absorb the pressure all the way with defenders Mamat No.11 (CPT), Fazli No.17, Johari and Woonie fending off the attacks. The referee, blew for half time.... 2nd Half We went out looking for the 2nd Goal hoping to secure the game....Shots rang in from MidField, Left Wing and from the strikers as well but our constant efforts led to no goal haul. With only 20 mins left, we switch to a more defensive approach in a bid to secure the 1 goal lead. Caliph sent more midfielders to look for that elusive opportunity to get a Draw..... Their wait came to an end... It was from a Set piece. Sharks had already designated markers on the Caliph Strikers.... But with an overwhelming wave of midfielders and loosen marking, they got back 1 Goal and managed to Draw jus 10 mins from the end. The feeling of being robbed lingers upon the players... Another formation was adopted to go all out to attack again... We started running at Caliph defenders but this time round they adopted a very defensive play hoping to secure the Draw. At times, Caliph look threatening on the break but when Sharks gain possession, Caliph have to fall back quickly if not it would be back to Square 1 for them if Sharks manage to Capitalise. The movement and speed of the game heighten as both side wants a win out of today's game....alas the referee blew for the final whistle... Each side gained a precious point for their season's opening game. Final Score Al-Caliph 1 - 1 ABFC Sharks Man of the Match: Mamat No.11 Fending off most of the attacks and controlling the defenders has help Sharks strengthen their overall defensive play. Also the Team's Captain for today and had upheld the pressure till the end.
