Liverpool have notoriously failed to win away so far this season, scoring just the one goal in the process- a Robbie Fowler penalty on the opening day of the season at Sheffield United. When considering this statistic it is difficult to understand why Liverpool are just 2.16 to win this fixture, especially when you consider there is very little wrong with Wigan’s home record, having won two of their last three home matches and drawing the other to Aston Villa. Liverpool could therefore be well worth laying at that price.
A more straightforward bet may prove to be backing the under 2.5 goals at 1.67. Whereas Wigan have had an equal number of matches ending with over 2.5 goals as under 2.5 goals, Liverpool have had less than under 2.5 goals in two-thirds of theirs. This is no surprise given that Liverpool have found it so difficult to score away from home but have actually defended pretty well with only the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal being the exception to the rule.
Those who think that Liverpool will continue their run of uneventful matches after recent 0-0 draws against Middlesbrough and Portsmouth can back another 0-0 at 9.6.
