DJ MARKET TALK: Singapore Airlines May Fall; 1Q13 Net Profit In Line

0045 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore Airlines (C6L.SG) may fall after reporting fiscal-1Q13 net profit rose 73% on-year to S$78 million, in line with the S$78.2 million expected; it swung from a S$38 million fiscal-4Q12 loss as fuel prices stabilized, but the carrier flagged a weak outlook for its cargo business. With weakness from the passenger segment, weak cargo guidance and passenger yield erosion, "I can't see how the stock can outperform from here," an analyst says. He notes SIA Engineering (S59.SG) accounts for 68% of profit-before-tax even though its market capitalization is a third of its parent. The stock ended Wednesday up 0.2% at S$10.69, but it is up around 3% month-to-date; Tuesday's low at S$10.56 may offer support.
DJ Ascendas Hospitality Trust: Allots 73.4 Mln Additional Units To Singapore IPO

SINGAPORE--Ascendas Hospitality Trust has allotted an additional 73.4 million stapled securities to the placement tranche of its Singapore initial public offer as part of its overallotment process, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
The trust, which raised 384.8 million Singapore dollars (US$306 million) in the IPO and is due to debut on the Singapore Exchange Friday, said its public offer was about 6.9 times subscribed.

SINGAPORE--AIMS AMP Capital Industrial REIT (O5RU.SG) Thursday said it has established a 500 million Singapore dollar (US$398 million) medium-term note program. Standard Chartered Bank and United Overseas Bank have been appointed arrangers and dealers of the program.

Caterpillar profit soars 67% in second quarter

NEW YORK - Caterpillar, the world's top heavy construction equipment maker, said on Wednesday it racked up its best quarter in history in April through June, and raised its full-year profit outlook.
Second-quarter profit was US$1.7 billion, driven by record sales and revenues of US$17.4 billion, up 22 per cent from a year ago.
Earnings of $2.54 per share also set a record, said the company, based in Peoria, Illinois.
The results widely topped analysts' expectations of $2.28 EPS.
Revenues of US$17.4 billion were better than the US$17.1 billion expected.
Machinery sales increased on higher end-user demand, while mining production increased despite lower prices for metals and coal compared with a year earlier, the company said.
Caterpillar chairman and chief executive Doug Oberhelman said the company's second-quarter performance was due to "excellent" operational performance, including cost control, safety, quality and new product launches.
"Our global footprint, the breadth of industries we serve and our extensive line of products and services have helped us achieve these record-breaking results during this time of heightened economic uncertainty, and execution has been outstanding," he said in a statement.
Caterpillar reported it had raised its 2012 earnings per share outlook to $9.60, from a previous $9.50, but lowered its sales and revenue forecast to US$68-70 billion, down from US$72 billion at the top end.
"I am cautiously optimistic about the world economy in 2013, very positive on the long-term prospects for global growth and excited about the role Caterpillar will play in making that growth happen. After all, the road to progress - begins with a road," Mr Oberhelman said
